Something that was presented in my Phase Three presentation is that the robots wouldn't talk, they would only have beeping sounds to communicate. This is something that we were excited to expand upon. During Phase Four we had a synthesiser in the studio, this gave us a device that would instantly give us very digital sounds that would fit the design of our protagonist.
These are a few sample of 'digital' sounds that the synthesiser can make and almost all of them could definitely work with our robots, there is enough variety in them to even use them for different situations like sounds for them communicating with each other and sounds of them getting hurt etc.
This will be very important as it will be the only way our charater will audibly be able to communicate so it is necessary for us to have a full range of sounds that they can use for expressions within the game.
Other research we wish to do:
As well as the sounds for the robots we want to make sure we keep the rest of the sounds truly authentic so we will make sure we do first hand research and recording of other sounds we want in the game. here is a list of sounds we want to make sure we collect:
Robot:
tapping on the plastic casing of a 90s PC
Boot up sounds of old computers
Antagonist airships:
Aeroplanes taking off
trains/underground in London
Natural sounds for the environment:
Winchester Moors
New Forest
If we can use these sounds as sources for our audio in the finished game I think we will be able to make immersive audio that will ground the player in the reality of the world we are making.
