Phase 2:

In-depth Research into Robots

In the Second Phase, I will be looking at robots in a more broad way, seeing a range of robots in the current industry, Looking at how they are working and seeing how they are portrayed in media.

The goal of this phase is to find things that could EVENTUALLY evolve into game ideas. so when I move on to the next phase I have direction.

Further directions to Research:

Moving on to Phase Two my peers and I gave suggestions in the following fields for each of our themes. This list of subjects is to get a wide range of different mediums to research.

This activity gave people who were fresh to my topic a chance to suggest complete new areas for me to explore.

You can read about this more in the introduction of Phase Two blog post.

An in-depth look at some Industry-standard Robots:

Starship Delivery:

Starship delivery is a service that delivers groceries BUT it does this exclusively with completely automated robots. This is a great way to show how robots can be used to help people in communities that are not able to go out for themselves.

You can learn more about it in the blog post below, All about Starship Delivery.

Amazon Warehouse:

In Amazon warehouses, the stock is constantly shifted around with a hive network of smart robots that lift up all the relevant items and bring them to the workers to package them up and send them off, without the robots the company would never be able to achieve this next day delivery they
strive for.

You can learn more about it in the blog post below, where I give a deep dive about Amazon's warehouses.

Boston Dynamics:

As I already researched Boston Dynamics in Phase One and in the response to my presentation a response I got was how do they monetize these robots and how are they used. So I looked into how they do this, most of the spot models are sold and used in dangerous jobs that would endanger workers.

You can learn more about it in the blog post below where I will look into various place the robots are used in the industry.

Further Research Into
Boston Dynamics:

Boston Dynamics'
R & D Process:

As well as looking into how Boston Dynamics monetized their robots I also wanted to look into the reason their robots are regarded as the golden standard of robotics in the industry.

The main reason for their success is the rigorous research and development (R&D) they go through, as well as the skilled team behind the robots. When looking into the process I came across some fascinating aspects to the robots and how they always get dilapidated and pushed beyond their limits in testing.

You can learn more about it in the blog post below.

Robots within Media:

Something I wanted to do for my research I looked at how other robots are presented in media to get a good idea of correlations in designs and give me some good pointers in design choices I will have to make for my robots.

Presentation & Moving Forward:

The end of Phase Two consisted of presenting all the research I did on the topic of robots and suggesting possible directions that this research could go forward into game ideas for Phase Three.

Unfortunately, I was unable to present this presentation as I was ill over the period of time the presentations were being held, I would say that the main point of the feedback I would have got was how I could take these ideas forward into game ideas or mechanics. Luckily I would say I already have a few avenues from my research where game ideas or mechanics would be a very natural progression from what I researched.

To learn more about what topics from my theme I will be taking forward into the next phase and developing into game ideas you can move onto my Phase Three Page here, as well as this you can scroll down to do additional reading on other topics I researched in Phase Two.
