Oct 30th:
today I finished the 'Level one' section of the tutorials, getting to the point of a standard render using lighting and basic use of the materials features of blender. This allows me to go from the point of the end of last weeks development where I had a bland grey floating donut to now where I have a composition and colour.
Nov 4th:
Following that I went onto 'Level 2' This level is all about finer detail: textures on the donut as well as things like procedurally generating the sprinkles on the top of the icing.
This part was about making the Sprinkles and being able to use the particles setting to create a couple hundred sprinkles and then changing all the orientation to make them look randomly place on-top. Also I used heat mapping to make sure they are only placed on the very top and not in incorrect places on the icing model (like underneath the icings edges etc.)
This weeks was a bit shorted but its starting to get into some more complex areas so i'm happy to take a bit more time with these parts. This is where I need to be focusing because without these steps mastered nothing will have and detail or variety to it.
