After having a rough idea of what items I wanted the player to make I did some brain storming of how them could be upgraded and what would need to actually change on the items for that to work.
Grapple Gun:
So I made blue print sketches of the items highlighting the key features the item has. whilst also among them while pointing to that specific feature. Overall this are the parameters that would allow the the invention to work. This would also be how the player first see the items, in between the repair jobs the player can go to a Research & Development station at their repair shop (this is also where they can accept new missions) when you have invested in this item the player will make the grapple gun.
which brings me onto the upgrading feature of inventing:
As you can see this version of the blueprint has been adjusted. All the improvements are labelled with underlined words.
These upgrades come in three forms:
1. More durable/ efficient material (wire) 2. Changing the item itself core design (hook) 3. Adding a whole new counter mechanism to the invention (the recoiling system)
In this sketch all of the upgrades are done but you would individually do the upgrades one at a time allowing you to gradually play the game more and more in your own way.
Mag-Boots:
These would allow you to climb metal parts of the buildings and go up steep metal inclines. (they will have no affect on the metal roof work, this would be resembled by the roof having rust on them)
These upgrade It two significant ways:
1.With the compressed magnets you will be able to move more efficiently while using them (before hand it would be a very 'heavy walk' you would do while using them on metal constructs)
2.With this upgrade the magnets will be on a rotary system changing the attraction to a repelling system. this will let you get a boosted jump from the various metal parts of the rooftops or lower areas of the favelas.
In the finished game there would be more these are the two that I got round to finalising and developing properly with designs and upgrade layouts.
